Harris Corporation's P25 LMR Radio System at Fort Irwin in California Obtains ATO Accreditation from the Department of Defense

Houston, TX, August 2, 2010 (APCO International, Booth 231) — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, received the Authorization to Operate (ATO) Type Accreditation from the Department of Defense, for the Observer Controller Communication System Project 25 at Fort Irwin, California. The Harris P25 Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system at Fort Irwin includes four sites and 28 channels, and provides reliable, mission-critical communications for the facility's 550 users.

An ATO is a formal statement by a Designated Accrediting Authority (DAA) regarding acceptance of a DoD information system. After adequately implementing all assigned Information Assurance (IA) controls at Fort Irwin, an ATO was granted by the DoD for the Harris P25 LMR system to process, store and transmit mission-critical communications information.

"The effort required to receive an official ATO is extensive and included identifying and properly meeting numerous IA controls in order for the ATO to be granted," said Steve Shanck, president, Harris Public Safety and Professional Communications. "Our certification and accreditation team worked seamlessly with the customer to ensure the P25 LMR system was secured to the DoD's specifications."

The National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin is a major training area for the United States Military. Located in the Mojave Desert in northern San Bernardino County, California, the base is part of the Installation Management Command (IMCOM). The opposing force at the NTC is the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, the Blackhorse Cavalry, which is stationed at the base to provide an enemy force to units on a training rotation at Fort Irwin.
