CHICAGO, November 13, 2000 - Harris Corporation, a leading provider of security software solutions, announced today that its Security Threat Avoidance Technology (STAT®) Scanner product has been enhanced to support scanning foreign-language versions of Windows NT® and Windows 2000® platforms. The announcement was made during the 27th Annual Computer Security Conference and Exhibition at the Chicago Hilton and Towers.
STAT® Scanner is a comprehensive Windows NT/2000 network defense system capable of detecting more than 900 vulnerabilities. Scanner allows network administrators to scan and correct critical security vulnerabilities across the network within minutes of installing the software on the security console.
"Scanner will now allow customers running non-English versions of these popular operating systems to benefit from this leading-edge security tool," said Steve Gould, Scanner product manager, Harris Corporation. "This enhancement to Scanner grew from the many requests we've received from our installed European and South American customers. International customers, who run mixed networks within their operations, must bring the entire network to a consistent level of security in order to support a trusted operation that can move into the next level of e-business," said Gould.
The Distributed Denial of Service (DDS) attacks that recently shut down operations at several Internet-intensive businesses exemplify the vulnerability of the Internet. During these incidents, many unknowing hosts across the globe were used to launch a synchronized attack against a common target.
"By extending the scope of Scanner to address the needs of the international community," Gould explained, "Harris is taking steps to eliminate the vulnerability of these hosts and, as a result, is reducing the potential for similar attacks."
Scanner is easy to use and does not require special configuration or lengthy set-up. The enhanced new scanning engine automatically interrogates the target operating system and determines the host language. The multi-lingual capability is being provided at no additional cost to customers and is being delivered as part of a monthly update service provided to all Scanner customers. Additional information about Scanner is available at www.STATonline.com.
Scanner is a member of the STAT® Family of products. Along with STAT® Analyzer and STAT® Designer, Scanner targets internet and computer network intruders, performing assessment and correction tasks that take information assurance capabilities to previously unattainable levels.
