Harris Corporation Receives NSA and DAMA Certification for Falcon II Multiband/Multimission Radios

ROCHESTER, NY, February 1, 2000. - The National Security Agency (NSA) has certified the INFOSEC features of Harris Corporation's Falcon II AN/PRC-117F(C) multiband, multimission radio to pass voice and data traffic up through the TOP SECRET level. The Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) has also recently informed Harris that the same radio has successfully completed all the certification steps for Demand-Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) capabilities. DAMA technology is used by the military for UHF satellite communications to make more efficient use of limited radio frequency spectrum. The Joint Chiefs of Staff have mandated DAMA-compliant terminals for all military UHF SATCOM users.

The AN/PRC-117F(C) is now the only 30 to 512 MHz radio that is fully NSA- and JITC-certified for DAMA and SINCGARS interoperability. To date, more than 600 AN/PRC-117F(C) radios have been shipped.

Dick Rzepkowski, vice president of the Strategic Radio Business Corporation for Harris' RF Communications Division, said, "These are very significant milestones for Harris. We join an elite group of companies that are capable of supplying sophisticated SATCOM radios that support DAMA."

Effectively three radios in one, the AN/PRC-117F(C) provides low-band very high frequency (VHF) capabilities for combat net radio, high-band VHF functionality for public safety, and ground-to-air and ultra-high frequency (UHF) features for military ground-to-air and satellite communications (SATCOM). Continuous on-the-air coverage from 30 MHz to 512 MHz is provided to allow full use of the frequency spectrum.
