Crown Castle International Awards Harris Corporation$1.8 Million Television Transmitter Order in the UK

WOKINGHAM, UK, May 25, 2000 - Harris Corporation announced today that it has signed an agreement valued at $1.8 million with Crown Castle UK Limited, a subsidiary of Crown Castle International Corp. (NASDAQ-TWRS) to supply high-power UHF television transmitters. These transmitters will ensure that the 13 million viewers of BBC ONE and BBC TWO in Greater London continue to receive consistent, reliable performance and clear picture quality.

Crown Castle, which owns and operates the UK's network of television and radio transmitters, selected two pairs of Harris SigmaPLUS™ Inductive Output Tube (IOT) UHF transmitters, ensuring very high service availability through redundancy. "The flexibility of the SigmaPLUS architecture offers the best power amplifier type and system configuration for our specific requirements," said John Ward, Director of Broadcast and Engineering, Crown Castle UK Limited. "Each amplifier operates independently, allowing on-air maintenance to help ensure that high standards of broadcasting are upheld."

The transmitters also provide an easy migration path to digital television should this be required in the future. The SigmaPLUS transmitters have the linearity and efficiency that ensure easy upgrade for digital transmission with worldwide digital standards.

Harris was selected as part of a competitive bid with Crown Castle. Sigma transmitters utilize IOT technology to provide high reliability, low power consumption and low-cost performance. The transmitters also offer simple monitoring and control locally or remotely via intuitive graphical user interfaces. The installation is due to be complete by the end of 2000.
